I’m exhausted.
I’ve just spent the better part of two hours searching for a tutorial on how to make a kite. Most suffered from lack of clarity (what’s the deal with making a slideshow video? How can that be useful?) and some were just too lame looking (newspaper kites just aren’t “kool”).
So, I decided to skip the basic “diamond” kite and go straight to the big guns – the box kite!
Box kites have always fascinated me. What could possibly be a less aerodynamic design than a box? Yet, they manage to fly them even in light winds…
Here is a diagram for the tutorial at Dadskool.com:

I believe this kite project (see the video) should be done with the garage door wide open so all the neighbor kids can see what a Kool Dad you are. Then head down to the park for some high flyin’ fun!

Last year while building my awesome tiki bar and listening to some kool tunes out by the pool (Izzy, Marley, and Jack Johnson), I decided that I needed to learn the ukulele. As unkool as that instrument sounds, it is the ULTIMATE beach fire, poolside and hammock instrument! As for unkool? I can now play Radiohead’s Creep on my uke. Sounds kool to me!
But I digress – my thinking was, it’s small, portable, sounds great and only has four strings. How hard can it be?
Turns out, not that hard at all. And great fun to practice…
My lessons started humbly, sitting in front of my computer as you are now, a $120 Kala Uke in my hands, and a few video tutorials from a guy named Benny.
Check out Benny’s videos here at Dadskool – check out the ukulele tag in the Vids section.
Uke can do it!

Welcome to Dadskool, Kool Dads!
You may question whether you actually ARE “kool” yet, but I happen to know that you are.
Why?
Because you made the effort to come here and find out about things you can do for, and with, your kids.
That makes you kool in my book, brother!
Dadskool.com will hopefully become a place you visit often. Whether you want to learn how to do a magic trick before the next Cub Scout meeting, or get some pointers on how to throw a curve ball in time for next Saturday’s Little League game, or just about anything else that defines you among the shorter-set as a “kool dad”, I plan to find it and have it waiting for you here.
And if I can’t find it, I will try to create it as a Dadskool original production.
So, look around, Dad… If you didn’t find what you wanted, drop me an email and I’ll get on it. Or just let me know what you think of the site!
And if you wanna be super kool – how about subscribing? You’ll be one step ahead of the other dads
